Garigliano (1503)

Last Tuesday we had our last game of the 2015. We all agreed for the Pike and Shotte game proposed by Michael. His choice was the battle fought in December 1503 at Garigliano between Spanish and French forces. We used the Pike and Shotte rules for this game.
Do gry użyliśmy zasad Pike and Shotte.

2. The game. Gra.

Sometimes when I read the stories about the battles and find the situation when everything went not in the way, which not supposed to go and thinking about the possibilities of different actions, the games like that one we had last time, stand in front of my eyes. The plan was great, but to perform it, that was something completely different. First I misunderstand Michael and started the game with my whole army off the table, then I got blunder on my army. that slowed me very much. Finally when I managed to cross the river it was only my cavalry. They managed to destroy French Men-At-Arms and push French Gendarmes back, but without support of the infantry they get nearly blasted by Spanish guns. Finally my infantry crossed the river, but that was performed with the speed of snail. When the time for the game was nearly over I decided to gamble. I push my Gendarmes against French Gendarmes. That gives me the chances of winning the game as I had open way against Spanish guns and infantry and as we know it is very hard to stop charging heavy knights. However not this time. They lost the melee as the whole game...

Michael had also bad performance too. He send his light cavalry to cut off French crossbowmen on the hill, but they met the French cavalry. As our unit was the lighter, they were forced to withdraw. The main Spanish forces moved against the hill, but every time they became disordered by accurate French fire. Finally they stuck there for good without any chances to move forward. Now they were hoping that my Gendarmes would win the battle...
Michael miał podobnie jak ja niezbyt udane akcje. Wysłał swoją jazdę, by okrążyła francuskich kuszników na wzgórzu, jednak tam napotkała ona francuską kawalerię.
